Milestones

The beginning of this month has been a big milestone season for us.  Birthdays, anniversaries (both good and sad), new beginnings.  Its all so huge to process at times.

Firstly, our dear Owen turned the big 4.  He was so excited in the weeks and days leading up to the event itself.  Family and friends were on hand to help celebrate, including a much needed Skype chat with his uncle.  He had asked specifically for that.  What an age we live in!  Turning four and asking for a video call.  I think I played with a second helping of dirt in the back yard at that age.  Maybe not.

Next, this coming week, little Audrey will be three months old.  What a change she has brought to this family already.  Less sleep than we were already getting of course, but all the grunts, growls, and punching fists have totally flipped this family.  Her brothers are enamored with her and love helping as they can.  And that first smile, we were done.  Put a fork in us.

And not to be left out of things, Ethan started school.  We have a kindergartener.  Seems not that long ago that we were coming home on a cold rainy day with oxygen tanks, wound vac, and the car seat after our trip home from Phoenix.  A five-IMG_1973year-old and working on foundations of reading and writing and numbers.  Already telling us what he already knows vs the new stuff.  Yikes.  It begins.

Lydia is doing great with it all.  Overwhelmed and often too exhausted to express it, she’s a champ.  She’s involved in a new bible study, a moms group, still battling her food and allergy adjustments, started an exercise class that we hope can continue.  Oh yeah, and an awesome mom of the above.

On a more reflective note, the end of August marked the 15th anniversary of dad’s passing.  Hard to wrap the mind around that at times.  All the life and changes in that amount of time, and yet I can still hear his laugh, groan at any number of silly and/or lame jokes, and hear the growls anytime a cat would be seen or I Love Lucy would come on TV.  I miss him.

Lastly, also at the end of August, I had just begun my freshman year at Biola, 20 years ago.  Such a defining time in my life.  I often think to those days, remember special times and people.  Wonder about this choice or that event.  I was reflecting today with Lydia and recalling two guys that I’m still friends with that I met in those first few days.  Both were groomsmen for me.  Also, that first semester was when I got my first Mac.  Thank you Lord for showing me wisdom.  HA!

What a life God has blessed me with.

So, milestones.  New ones starting, passing ones reflected on.  Challenges faced and lessons learned, good times had and shared.

Lord, thank you for your blessings.

May they be renewed every morning.

First Milestone

A month.

A month.

What a month.  Our Audrey’s first month.  Lots of adjustment, or re-adjustment.  Baby stuff.  Feedings and sleep and grunts and groans.  And that is all from mommy!  =)

Our new special one is doing quite well.  At her 10 day checkup, she had regained all her baby weight loss since coming home and sprouted another 3″ in length.  As of today, she has gained more weight and her color is coming in nicely.  She’s got a little routine, which of course doesn’t match either mommy or brothers.  So little sleep is had by mommy.

With Audrey’s arrival, the boys are learning and growing too.  Ethan had his first tooth come out her first week home.  Not to be outdone, Owen had a little accident with some hot chocolate that drew attention back to him for a few hours.  All is well, but what a ride.  Poor Lydia.

We’ve also been back in California for a year now.  That’s some crazy by itself.

Hello world!

This is our first post.  We’re using our daughters birth to kick of the launch of this blog.  Please be gracious and patient and we big and grow our updates

Dear all,
Please join us in welcoming Audrey Ruth to the Donley family.
Audrey was born June 19, 2015.  She was born 7 lbs and 5 ozs.  18 inches long.
Both Audrey and mama Lydia are doing great.  We anticipate them being released from the hospital tomorrow, Monday.
She is already a joy for us.  Big brother Ethan and new big brother Owen are very excited for her to be here with us.  Separation for even these few days of hospital time has been hard for mama and boys, but it is time well spent.  Lydia is recovering from surgery just fine and making a strong recovery.  She is anxious to get home too.
Thank you to all for the support shown and felt.  For those who have been praying, thank you.  Much appreciated.
Now Papa Mike has more reason to get updates becoming more regular again.
